Teleprompter Training Tip #35: Keep Eye Contact

Easier said than done, this calls for practice and will probably require a few takes to get spot on.

Until the Director tell you something different, before the take starts, during the take and after it ends, just keep looking straight into the camera. That is of course unless you’ve mastered the process.

Eye movements are more important, the tighter the shot is. Eye movements away from your audience make you look either uncomfortable or slightly dishonest. The only time you should really look away from the screen is when the Director says ‘cut’.

For most, it’s an involuntary reaction and many won’t even realize they are glancing away from the camera. Lose eye contact during a script edit point however and the shot will have to be re-taken.

Blinking is ok though in moderation!

When you are ready to bring your presentations in-house, use professional teleprompter software . . . it will make a huge difference to the success of your production.
