Play Kitchens: Are They For Those Under 3 yrs Old?

What is the ideal age of children to appreciate a play kitchen? This is question often asked when it comes to purchasing a toy kitchen. What you must ask yourself is what do you want a kid’s play kitchen to accomplish?

While children under the age of three may play with a toy kitchen their primary motivation to do so will be because of the bells and whistles, literally. They will be attracted to it’s gurgling sounds of boiling water and dinging bells when the baking is complete. Yet, they won’t be able to grasp the imaginative play properties of play kitchens until they are around 3 years of age. The brain of a young child under this age just isn’t developed enough cognitively to grasp the idea of imaginary play.

Therefore, while it is completely acceptable to buy a toy kitchen for a child under the age of three just know that at different ages their will be different experiences and plan accordingly.
