Day 21: Meet Paul O’Mahony, the “Twitter King”

Continuing my “26 Weeks to Freedom” accountability project, I just watched a terrific webinar, given by Chris Farrell, featuring an Irishman named Paul O’Mahony who has become an expert on how to maximize the use of Twitter for promoting your business. Ironically, I almost didn’t bother joining the webinar because I thought it might be just another rehash of what I’ve already heard before about Twitter—but I couldn’t have been more wrong!

Paul has figured out—in a remarkably short period of time—how to acquire literally tens of thousands of followers on Twitter and how to have them organized into different niches of interest so that he can target specific product messages to them. And it must be working, because he’s making a handsome income from doing it! If you go to his website, www.TheTwitterKing.net, you can grab a free download for his Ebook called “The 11 Do’s and Don’t’s of How to Make Big Money with Twitter.” I’ve already downloaded mine and I’ll be reading it this evening.

Listening to what Paul is doing, and seeing all the statistics he presented about the mega-explosive growth of Twitter and other “social media” (which, ironically, are still in their infancy), I am once again reminded of the astounding worldwide revolution in communications, commerce, and marketing that is now unfolding right in front of our faces! And it makes me even more determined to join this “wave of the future” starting now. Yes, it takes a commitment to set aside the time to learn the basics (as I’ve been trying to do for several months—admittedly not in the most efficient way!) but as Chris Farrell keeps reminding us, “you only need to learn the basics once.” I really encourage everyone (if you haven’t already) to think about jumping in and “staking your claim” in the Internet revolution that is changing all of our lives.

Following up on my “Day 20″ post (in which I spotlighted a particular real estate agent in Portland who has figured out how to get his website on Page 1 of Google in a hotly competitive market), I have decided to put myself to the “acid test”—creating a new real estate website of my own and seeing if I can get it on the first page also! Even though I am not an active real estate agent and therefore won’t be trying to attract home buyers and sellers, this should be a fun project and the perfect way to see if everything I’m learning really works! Remember, I am talking about achieving a high ranking in the unpaid “organic” search results—not the “Adwords” paid ads or the business “directories” that appear at the top and right side of Google’s search results pages. By the way, did you know that despite all the fierce competition there is among those Adwords advertisers, searchers are much more likely to click on the organic (unpaid) listings than on the sponsored ads? That’s why I prefer to focus my efforts on learning how to achieve high placement in the organic listings.

If you’re curious about how I’m doing on this 26- week “accountability”
project–including the full, unedited blog postings for each day as I go along (with videos, photos, comments, and other links)–please visit my Creating an Internet Business website. I’ll look forward to seeing you there!
