Why is the Tango considered a ballroom dance, not a Latin dance?
Watching Dancing With the Stars the past few years, my sister and I have wondered why the Tango is not considered a Latin dance, along with the Mambo, Cha Cha, and Paso Doble.
Thanks.
All "ballroom" dances rotate around the dance floor in what is called the "line of dance" (its always counter-clockwise). Latin or Rhythm dances move but they can move in any direction and they can be stationary also.

Ballroom Tango (or English Tango) is done in a closed hold throughout the entire dance, and also because it was developed into a standardised dance by the English in order to allow them to teach it.
