Can I learn to Tango/Salsa/ChaCha/Rumba/Latin Dance?

I am 6′5 and when completely slimmed down, 200 pounds. I wouldn’t be even a tiny bit fat at this weight. It would be all muscle. I also have a size 15 shoe. I’m a guy.

I guess what I’m saying is that I’m barrel chested and bulky. I can move fairly quickly but I’m finding it hard to imagine that I’d ever find anyone to dance with at my size. Wouldn’t it be awkward?

I really like the idea of knowing how to do the various latin dances and would put tons of time into it. Despite never having danced before, I’m not afraid of looking bad at first. I’ll take the chance of getting laughed at, etc… to learn. I just honestly picture dancers as being these petite little things and I’d hate to learn to dance so that I could end up the giant of the dance floor without a partner forever.

I mean I know there are tall girls but how many of them dance? I still picture most dancers being 5′5 120 (both guy and girl).

I dance Salsa and one woman I love do dance with is 5′ 9" barefoot and she wears 5 inch heels so stands over 6 foot when she’s dancing. I’m in heaven. BTW I’m only 5′6"

But I’ve danced both Salsa and Tango with women with women over 5′ 10". And there’s a guy that dances with the same teachers that I go to that’s over 6′ and he’s a big strong guy. His arms are just enormous. But a lot of my female friends who’ve danced with him says that he’s a great dancer, really smooth.

So just go for it and do it and have fun. Heck, if my belly can salsa, I’m sure that you can do it too.

I don’t see why you couldn’t learn to dance. I’ve danced with people about your size before and there weren’t any problems, even though I’m 5′8". The only thing you’d have to keep in mind is not to step too far, since most people don’t have as long of a stride as you. As long as you want to learn, you shouldn’t let your height keep you from trying.

you sound perfect as far as your attitude goes! honestly, it shouldn’t be that much of a problem. you will have to dance with shorter women but they will be wearing heels and the shorter ones (like me) are used to dancing with taller guys. i think you should definitely go for it.
    good luck :)
