Where can I find suitable songs for tango?
We’re having some kind of ‘freshmen prom’ at the beginning of November and I will participate in this pageant where I have to dance tango with my partner but I don’t have any idea what the song is called. I’m pretty sure it’s a well-known one but oh well. Is there anyone who can help me figure it out?
El Tango is a very sultry type of dance from ARGENTINA. Look up ARGENTENIAN TANGOS on GOOGLE and you should get thousands of hits to follow up on.
If you have never danced the Tango and if your partner has never danced the Tango.. then DON’T EVEN BOTHER becuse it’s not like learning the 2 step or the Fox Trot.. the Tango is a VERY INVOLVED DANCE and a person can even get injured trying to dance it.

What are the basics of that tango?
I’m choreographing a musical and for one of the numbers the director wants a tango. The problem is, all I know about the tango is what I’ve seen on Dancing With the Stars. Can someone please describe the basic hold, the basic step, and/or direct me to a website that has pictures and videos describing them? Thank you so much in advance! Please site your sources.
There are several different styles of tango. The previous poster gave you an excellent link to the basic steps of the international tango. I highly recommend that you review the step pattern and the sequence. However, you might also want to take a look at the following YouTube video:

I find that the instructors are very thorough and provide detailed information.

What is the name of the musical piece from the Tango scene in Get Smart?
Its driving me crazy, I am trying to figure out where I know this piece from. Anybody know the name of it or other movies its been in?
It’s either
"Dead Poets Society
(Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony)"
Written by Ludwig van Beethoven
Performed by the Ambrosian Singers
or
"Anna (El Negro Zumbon)"
by Les Brown & the Band of Renown
A full list (which isn’t that long) of music in Get Smart, among other films and TV shows, is on IMDb.com.
If you ever find yourself asking "what song is that?"
in any movie, I reccomend IMDb. It’s very helpful.

Can anyone tell me the name of a good tango song?
I’m looking for something similar to "The Departed Tango" from the Departed Soundtrack by Howard Shore.
Preferrably without lyrics
(although I guess that would technically be a composition rather than a song).
Oh Well….
You can always try "Blue Tango" ….. a very old classic but still played in this millineum

what kind of music is used to dance tango?
i dont know how to dance tango, nor do i even know were to learn. im going to try with the music then move on to lesson videos. but the problem is i don’t even know the genre of the music used.
It has its own form. If you have a program to search music and listen, try the major artists of three eras: Carlos Gardel for the classics, Astor Piazzolla for Nuevo Tango, and Gotan Project (yes, gotan in a sort of pig latin for tango) for the latest twist, just as a sampler. You’ll also want to listen to some of the other artists from the Golden Age of tango, and some songs like "la Cumparsita," "Gallo Ciego," and "el Choclo" are so culturally important that everybody ought to know them.
You should be aware that the Modern Tango of International Ballroom, that of American ballroom, and several versions of Argentine tango are remarkably different dances, so your plan is not likely to work very well. You’ll need a teacher (or two or three) in person, or you’re likely to get it all mixed up and wind up learning none of them, especially since video clips often don’t say which tango they’re talking about.
