How to relieve foot and muscle pain caused by long hours of dancing?

There are two parts to this question.

No.1 My feet hurt constantly since I started Ballroom Dancing three weeks ago and I’m not even wearing heels yet. Since I’m a beginner, I wear sneakers to class and I guess since they are a bit tight my feet hurt. I don’t think the pain is normal since I only go on weekends and when I move my left tow it hurts. What can I do to stop the pain and what shoes should I dance in? I figured to start wearing dance shoes when I cross over to intermediate.

No.2 This last weekend I went with the dance club to a dance resort in the mountains for two days to learn dances like Salsa, Bachata, Argentine Tango, Hip-Hop and Rueda de Casino. I danced for more than 9 hours on Saturday and about 5-6 hours on Sunday and now the muscles on my feet feel tight and stressed. I’m not in excellent physical shape and have never exercised like this. What should I do about it?
I think I didn’t specify, all the muscles on my legs hurt also, not just my feet.

Since you just started out, you’re placing unusual demands on your body. Your muscle aches should lessen in a few more weeks. Just be sure to not overwork it. If you think you might have pulled a muscle you should give it some rest, or else you’re inviting more serious injuries.

You should definitely buy dance shoes. It’s as if you were trying to learn how to swim and decided to not put water in the pool till you reach an intermediate level. Dance shoes is not a reward or luxury, it’s proper equipment. You are in fact injuring your feet every time you dance. Sneakers are too sticky, they stick to the floor and cause your ankles and other joints to twist in unnatural way. You are putting your knees in danger, too. When I was just starting out I found it impossible to dance in sneakers without pulling a muscle. It is only now, after 6 years of dancing, i can get away with dancing in street shoes. Dance shoes have proper traction with the floor and they are soft enough to mold to your foot and follow it in every direction without stressing it. I recommend suede-soled shoes, not dance sneakers. With most dance sneakers, you don’t feel the floor. There are few exceptions, but they are hard to find.

About your concern #2, soak your feet in hot water. It’s good to add Epsom salt to it. Also do alternating hot and cold foot baths – 3 minutes hot, 3 minutes cold, alternate several times. Rub your feet with your hands to reduce the tension. 9 hours of dancing is a lot. No matter how strong your feet are, that would cause problems like yours. If it hurts real bad put ice on it, don’t do the hot baths yet.

Leg muscles – don’t worry about them, there is very little you can do about it neither they are in any danger. They will get better in a couple of days. Your feet are in much worse shape I’m sure.

Next time you’re dancing, make time in the end to stretch and cool down. Don’t just jump out of the studio into cold weather. It will help to prevent muscle aches from being really bad. I know that ballroom instructors, especially beginner level, tend to neglect it, but it should be taught.

Are there any REALLY GOOD arguments against gay marriage?

All of the ones I’ve heard are very weak arguments at their best.

POINT: It would ruin the foundation of our society.
COUNTER-POINT: Even though this assertion is ridiculous, if the foundations of our society are so weak as to be ruined by gay marriage, then let it be ruined.

POINT: It does not fit the traditional definition of marriage.
COUNTER-POINT: What do you call an iPhone that is rendered useless by Apple after being hacked? Give up? It’s called a brick. Should Apple be barred from rendering iPhones useless just because the resulting product doesn’t fit the traditional definition of a brick? Should black people have been denied basic civil rights because the traditional definition of rights did not include them?

POINT: It’s gross.
COUNTER-POINT: Then let’s outlaw mud too.

POINT: It goes against nature.
COUNTER-POINT: Really? Aren’t humans a part of nature? And what about Tango’s dads? (See the children’s book "And Tango Makes Three," which is based on a true story). If you think it’s unnatural, and that homosexuality is a choice, then is that to say you COULD be homosexual but choose not to be? I know I couldn’t.

POINT: It’s a sin against God.
COUNTER-POINT: God makes rules for you to follow. I can’t argue against that. However, put yourself in the shoes of non-followers:
If my Aunt Jemima bottle started talking to me and started making all kinds of rules, I wouldn’t go around trying to assert the laws of Aunt Jemima. Even though she declares herself to be a supreme authority, and says that to not follow her would mean spending eternity on a griddle, that would be between them and Aunt Jemima. And get this… Aunt Jemima says that heterosexual marriage is a sin, and anyone who engages in a heterosexual lifestyle will be damned.

POINT: Children who are adopted by gay couples will be confused, traumatized, weird, or gay.
COUNTER-POINT: Statistics don’t support that claim. Furthermore, Osama Bin Laden, Adolf Hitler, John Wayne Gacy, and Charles Manson were all born and raised by straight couples. Does that mean the children of straight couples are insane mass murderers? No. But it does show that no one is immune to planting some bad seeds or becoming a bad seed. Whether by nature or nurture, those people are horrible, evil, weird, confused, and one of them is gay.
Aya-Louise, you have the burden of proof. How exactly are a father and mother better able to raise a child than someone who has two fathers or two mothers? How is it that divorce is legal, and that single parents are abundant?
James — good thinking. But gay marriage isn’t even close to being like the Nebraska Safe Haven law. The laws can be crafted carefully, but very simply, by defining marriage as a legal union between two people who are of sound mind and otherwise able to consent. The lawmakers are eloquent whizzes when it comes to carefully constructing laws. What would take tweezers and needlenose pliers for you and me, they can chuck out in chickenscratch while sitting on the john.

Have a mental health day. No work no responsibilities! Cellphones, Ipods, Laptops, and TV ARE NOT ALLOWED. Here is the recipe for the perfect mental health day:

Ingredients
-Go to bed late, so you can sleep late!
-Cancel all appointments, take a break from your job
-Lock all technology away
-Set you husband/kids/pets up with someone else. Its me time!
-Make sure you have the groceries needed for home prepared food

Preparation:
Wake up really late! The minimum hour is 10:00 am. If you wake up before then, stay in bed and enjoy the serenity of the room.
Open all the windows in the house (Not actually open, but so that the curtains aren’t in the way, so that there is a lot of light in the house
Make a great breakfast! Blueberry pancakes, waffles, fruit, bacon, anything!
Walk around the neighborhood and chat with neighbors
Read a book on the beach
For lunch? Go to your favorite restaurant!
Go out shopping with your best friends, but don’t use the items you bought until the next day
Flirt mercilessly with a lot of guys (Wear really good makeup that day)
Go to a nightclub and PARTY! (Make sure not to drink to much!)
Yes you can use the T.V for the next step, watch a really sappy movie and make sure to cry, and pig out on all your favorite junk food snacks!
Write down one thing you learned from today, and put it under your pillow
Look at the stars from your window
Go to sleep

Help kids on the beach build a sand castle
Fly a kite
Give a homeless person a twenty dollar bill
Shop at GoodWill frequently (Salvation Army works too!)
Re-invent yourself at least once

Do You Like This Dress?

Im in my last year of high school, and the school is having a semi-formal dance (not grad or anything) and i what i think is a pretty nice dress, it looks almost exactly like this but coral red:
