I’m making a CD for the family at Christmas time, but we all have different tastes.

All I’ve got so far is;
Never Do A Tango With An Eskimo (for my own humour/my grandad likes it)
Merry Christmas Everyone (I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like that song)
I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day (We always used to play this at Christmas)
Silent Night – Susan Boyle (my dad likes her)
Thank God It’s Christmas (I like it)
Fairytale Of New York (Me and my mum like it)
Stop The Cavalry (my dad likes it, it scares me)
Warm This Winter (my mum)
Drivin Home For Christmas (me and my dad like)
Santa Baby
Big Fat Santa’s On His Way (me and my brother have a right laugh at this one)
Last Christmas (my mum and dad like)

Is there anything my grandad would like? He likes classical and jazz music.

"Mannheim Steamroller Christmas" is the album, my favorites on the album are,

"Deck The Halls"
"Silent Night"
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
"We Three Kings"

They are all instrumental and all beautiful! Give them a listen on You Tube. They’re all available on itunes. It’s music for all ages!
‘

This is a REALLY long and complicated question, but if somebody actually takes the time to read it and give me an opinion, it would mean a TON to me.

I’m a drummer, and I’m dedicated. I would love to get a career in performing in front of crowds, I practice for about 2-3 hours a day, have rehearsals with music programs on weekends for about 3 hours and then go home and practice, I take weekly lessons, have weekly band rehearsals, and I play in concert and jazz band in school.

I’m really serious about wanting a future in music. But, in my hometown, there aren’t a ton of people that would be dedicated like that. I go to a program called "School of Rock" on the weekends, and it’s a good way to meet other people that would be dedicated, and I’ve met at least one or two people that are nice, open minded, easy to get along with, and good musicians that have similar tastes in music as me, and I’m elated that I found them. But, the only guy that seems to be a decent enough singer (And he’s Decent. He’s not that great) isn’t as great. I’ve been in a band with 3 other people for about a year now. It started out with 4 other people, but we had to kick out the other guy, Will, because he was missing a ton of practices and gigs. The singer, Jack, who was a nice guy to Will when he was around, now talks about him since he’s out of the band, saying that he was forgetful, not a good songwriter (Which he was, actually) and was being a jerk (Which he wasn’t, at least I don’t think so.) Jack tends to be a nice guy when you’re talking to him, but he’ll say things about you if you don’t do exactly what he wants.
I also right a lot of lyrics for the band, as of now I’ve written somewhere around 12-13 songs worth of lyrics, and when I write lyrics, I put a lot of time into it, they tend to have actual meaning behind them. I’ve given them to Jack, and after a month I asked him what he thought of them, and he didn’t say anything. We’re now using one set of lyrics, which he changed up a lot because he said he "Couldn’t figure out a fitting melody" (I wrote one out and showed it to him on piano. I wouldn’t mind him changing the lyrics if he was moving stuff around, or maybe taking out some of the lines, but he made the original chorus into one line in the verse, and the chorus had the heftiest meaning behind it. I wouldn’t even have minded as much if he had even asked, but he just did it. He tells me to keep giving him lyrics because he says that he’s having a lyrical block, but every time I do he ignores them. If he ever writes lyrics, they tend to be really dumb. (I was playing my guitar/when out popped a centaur/who jammed/on his pan. I was cutting a mango/while the birds did a tango. The chorus for the song is just him repeating "Blueberry jam, strawberry jam.")
He also only writes lyrics during rehearsal. He says it’s because he’s too busy, and later he talks about the table he made out of pieces of wood and an old drum set, or how hard this part or that part of a video game is, and how long it took him to beat time trials in this game or w/e. He says the same thing about listening to things. I gave him a CD of a band called "Streetlight Manifesto" and told him I think he should listen to it, he’d like it a lot. Now, 3 months later, he still hasn’t listened to it.
PLUS, whenever I bring up something, like how the lyrics should be more serious, or how I think the band shouldn’t goof off quite as much since we’re trying to get ready to record, he shrugs it off, then a month later says the exact same thing.
The band originally had trouble coming up with a name, until we decided on Sociosound. I think it’s pretty cool, though he had to come up with it and ignored the band’s ideas. Then, when he was talking to somebody at school of rock, the other person said that it was a dumb name. So he changed it. It then became Rather Dashing, which I FINALLY became able to accept, even though it’s basically a gag so when we go onstage we can say that "We are Rather Dashing," and I think that if you’re a band you should be more serious than that, which I mentioned and he replied "Led Zeppelin did that kind of thing all the time." (They didn’t. I’m Zep Obsessed.) So I told him that I think that I though sociosound was better. He changed the name. Then, I was in a conversation with somebody at School of Rock, and he came up, and we were talking about the band and it’s name, I mentioned the name, and the other guy said "That’s kinda gay. Sociosound was better." The name is, at the moment, Sociosound. I’m happy about that, but the thing is that Jack wouldn’t listen to the people IN THE BAND, but to the people outside.
He also has a major problem with other people doing things. He seems really uptight about a lot of things, he wasn’t even sure if he was ok with having a song titled "Heroin" on our demo, and when it comes to this guy it’s always about if he’s ok with it or not, not what the other 3 people have to say.

That all came ac
Thanks to all of you that answered, I know it was a long question so thank you for taking the time. I kinda wish I could have more than one best answer here.

He’s so not taking things seriously you need to take these things in your own hands if he’s not. His lyrics? They are really shitty and they sound like something someone with no musical experience would write. It’s gay. he just doesn’t want to express his true feelings in his lyrics. If you feel that you have some sweet lyrics show them to the rest of the band and if they like it, then show him and if he doesn’t like it than he can shove it. Tell him to start contributing or get out and tell him if he’s gonna take control of the whole band? At least do it right and not slack off. You really gotta tell him about that stuff.
Also I think "Heroin" would be a sweet name for a song. I wish I had thought of that.

I am looking for places to download music, with names I haven’t heard of(searching MP3 sites requires knowing song title or artist, and often I know neither), and also sites with Nuevo tango, and more recent tango. I like all kinds of tango, especially Argentine and Finnish, and Egyptian. But I prefer a selection of individual songs to tango radio recordings.

I have had good luck with downloads with no problems associated with them on www.imesh.com…Good Luck!!!

I’m a competitive ice dancer. My partner and I have been competeing together (both on our second partnerships) for seven years this month. We used to pairs skate, but now mainly do ice dancing (sort of ballroom dancing on ice, to simplify things greatly).

We’re doing this benefit in the summer, not a standard competition. Therefore, no CD/OD/FD regulations. We’re skating three dances, one must have a latin feel (think Cha-Cha/Samba/Rumba), one must have more of a traditional ballroom feel (think Waltz/Tango/Foxtrot), and the other is a freestyle. We need songs for each.

What we’d like:

Latin: Sexual undertones (without being unappropriate), passionate, medium tempo.
Ballroom: Slower tempo, more lovey-dovey then passionate.
Freestyle: FUN! Fast tempo.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Rosefern
Right now, we’re looking at:

Freestyle: I Love You (Martina McBride)
Ballroom: The End of the World (David Campbell)

However, more suggestions are welcome!

I have one for the latin version – Look up Mondo Bongo from Mr. and Mrs. Smith Soundtrack.

Alright. So, I first need to make some things clear.
1) my family is not loaded with money, but my mom wants the sweet 16 to be special.
2) So, She is giving me a budget of $1000 to work with (and my own money too)
3) So, while this is cleared up, I need some help.

I was thinking for a theme maybe a Mobster (1940′s) & Masquerade theme. We’re going to have 25 VIPS all together (mainly because I’m inviting my entire team, I don’t like leaving people excluded) and wanted to make sure that my closest friends were recognizable. I also need some places we could have the party at (New Hampshire). We have a DJ already, he’s related to my friend so we got a special discount. I really want this to be a fun time for my friends, and myself, so we were thinking of a limo picking us up from school and bringing us to our destination. If we did do the Mobster theme the VIP guys would need a mask, and a pinstripe suit, the girls a black dress with a white mask. I also need some entertainment, a videogropher, and perhaps a photographer. Would it be interesting if I had the invitations as a CD? If the theme I had wouldn’t work, then what would be interesting to you guys? For the VIPS We’ were also thinking of doing two special dances. A Greek Dance and the Tango remixed..
If I missed anything, just throw it in with any ideas you might have.
I need services roughly in the Rochester/Somersworth New Hampshire area.
I’d also love some sites for the Dresses and Tuxes.

invitations; write them on a fabulously decorated mask, something that actually has something to do with the theme of your party.

photographer; to cut the costs, get your friends to bring their digital cameras and take photos themselves of everyone at the party, then ask them to send them to you afterwards! sure the photos might not be as professional, but they sure will be free and fun.

entertainment; its good you have a dj, take some photos in your masqurade dress BEFORE the party, and blow them up and hang them from the roof of the venue, or stick them on the walls.
if your self consious of just photos of yourself, take some with your friends!

videographer and other entertainment; look around in the local papers to find someone cheap who is willing for a job around the area. there might be some special act people, something like fire eaters or lion tamers. lol, but something more to suit your theme.

themes; for other themes try the moulin rouge, paris / las vagas, hollywood, the 1940′s, dancing or more!

have fun, and good luck!

I’m a senior in high school now and I remember when grinding was first the "new thing". It was around 7th grade when I first saw it, and I thought, "That doesn’t take a lot of effort or expertise."

Two nights ago was my senior prom (I love dances!), and I saw many people freak dancing, which is natural now. Many of my friends came to the dance as well, and we all share the same taste in music. Soon, we gave the DJ a CD, and had him play "Zoot Suit Riot" from the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Soon, most of the dance floor cleared out, and there were only 20 out of 100 (or so) people that attended who knew how dance swing. Fortunately, I was one of them.

I’ve been trained how to dance tango, salsa, ball room, 50′s rock, and of course, swing. I tell you, it feels phenomenal when you’re doing all of these dance movements that these hip-hop grinders can’t do. My friend, who absolutely abhors freak dancing, said afterward, "We turned from sweaty gorillas rubbing up against each other to totally slick swing cats." I don’t mean to offend anyone. I just want to put spark into this discussion.

That was the only swing song, or any genre that wasn’t hip-hop or newly branded hip-hop played that night. Still, that single song was worth the $75 ticket and my date being mad at me (I danced with one of my girl friends who LOVES swing).

Whatever happened to the twist, the jitterbug, the charleston, and the hand-jive? Are there others like me out there who still live out and love the graceful dance steps? Are there people who find the classics "lame" and unfulfilling? Are there secret places out there that keep the big band ways alive?
I know how to grind, and I do it rather well. I love hip hop dancing, the sort that you’d see on Usher’s video. I love pop dancing (like Michael Jackson), but I’d rather hear YOUR opinion.

I personally feel the same way. I just had my Junior Prom a few weeks ago and everyone was doing the same thing. I had to head outside because it was getting a little ridiculous. I hate grinding. I do, though, love and enjoy the graceful steps of swing and older dances. Those who cannot do which you can is a remarkable feeling. I love older songs and dances compared to these "rappers" and how they "express" their feelings. It just annoys me. Where did the real singing go? Where did all of the lovely dances you could enjoy with a date go? I would love to dance with someone to something like the Charleston, but no one knows it. Therefore, I am forced to dance by myself and just tap to the beat. I feel that these songs are unfulfilling, not the older ones. It just gets me mad when I know that there is beautiful and catchy music out there that no one enjoys.
