Day 28: More Thoughts About Twitter…and Spam?
In case you missed Chris Farrell’s second webinar with the “Twitter King,” Paul O’Mahony (mentioned in the “Day 27″ post of my “26 Weeks to Freedom” blog),
this time Paul created a Twitter account for a fictional character (“Maggie Green” from Ireland) and then demonstrated how quickly “Maggie” can follow large numbers of other people, and have others follow her. My own Twitter account has not exactly been a beehive of activity since I opened it a while back, but I have been ”retweeting” these blog posts every day so they can be read by my followers, which number about 50. (I am currently following about 35.) I intend to make those numbers grow!
Personally, I think one “tweet” per day is enough—both to send and to receive. (OK, maybe two!) I follow a number of people who send out multiple tweets every day—and in fact, in a couple of cases I decided to “unfollow” them because their compulsive tweeting began to feel like spam. Of course, that’s just my preference, and I know there are other people who love to receive tons of tweets every day (as well as send them). But to me, such excess feels more like people are “wearing out their welcome” and imposing on my time and attention—so obviously I don’t want to do the same thing to anyone else. I’d be interested to know how you feel about that.
I have to confess that today I am taking a break from my “organizing” project of the past five days. I’ll jump on it again tomorrow morning. I did do some more initial planning for the two real estate agents’ websites I will be setting up soon to demonstrate how to achieve a Page 1 ranking in the search engines. One of the sites will be for prospective home buyers and sellers who are looking for an agent; the other will be for agents themselves who want to turbocharge their visibility on the Internet (without using paid ads). As I’ve said before, when later this year I launch my business to manage “SEO” (search engine optimization) activity for agents (particularly here in the Portland area), I want to be able to prove to them that I have already accomplished what I’ll be claiming I can do for them (i.e., having my own real estate sites already listed on Page 1 of Google). I am currently not an active agent myself, but one does not need to be in order to have the kind of informational-type sites that I have in mind. Should be interesting!
